Professor Nick Binedell is dean of the University of Pretoria’s Gordon Institute of Business Science (GIBS).
After starting his career in the mining and manufacturing sectors, Binedell has spent the past 30 years of his career focusing on business education. In 2000, he established GIBS, now recognised as a leading business school in Africa with a strong focus on partnering with business institutions to provide globally competitive and internationally-recognised business education. GIBS is ranked as one of the top providers of global executive education by the Financial Times in London.
Binedell’s academic qualifications include a PhD from the University of Washington in Seattle, where he was a Boeing Scholar, an MBA from the University of Cape Town and a Bachelor of Commerce degree from Rhodes University in Grahamstown. He is also a Fellow of the Royal Society of Arts.
His area of expertise is in the field of business strategy formulation. He has a deep appreciation of the challenges facing executives in complex organisations and has a high level of interest in the competitive dynamics of companies and the challenging search for excellence.
